Free Trade Agreement Chile - USA

The FTA with the United States entails Chile consolidating and widening Chilean products access to the largest, stable and leading new economy. This means having clear and permanent rules for trading goods and services, that facilitate Chilean investors decisions doing business with the EE.UU.

United States represent the 22% of the world GDP and its imports represent the 19 % of the world imports. Their population is about 285 million people, with a per capita income that goes over the US$ 35,400, eight more times than ours. This means that the US market represents 148 times our market. Our total annual exports are 72% of U.S.A. s imports in a week. Besides, to put our exports on a level with U.S.A. s exports during a month, we would need 6 years of our total exports.

All exports of goods will benefit from the Agreement in a maximum time period of 12 years, tariffs will reach 0% without exemption, although in different time periods. This includes those sectors where there s more world level protectionism (agriculture and textiles).

Besides, the unilaterial, transitory and subject to renewal General Preferential System (GPS) was consolidated. For the group of products favored by the GPS, the tariff will be permanently cero, a fact that will allow entrepreneurs to better plan their investment opportunities for increasing the import and export scale to the United States, having legal certitude that there won t be any change in the conditions on market access to US.

Favorable access conditions to the biggest economy in the world, as well as rules included in the FTA with U.S.A. are an appealing factor for the main international companies, either Americans, Europeans or Asians, wanting to invest in Chile.
